Green City Days Brings Community Energy to Rapperswil‑Jona
From 7 to 10 May 2026, Rapperswil‑Jona came alive as the inaugural Green City Days drew residents, families, students, and local organizations for a celebration of urban sustainability and community action. The four-day festival transformed the lakeside-city and its public spaces into an urban laboratory on climate‑resilient planning, green innovation, and civic engagement. Fourfold was a proud Presenting Partner of Green City Days.
Workshops on urban biodiversity, soil health, and climate‑friendly gardening gave visitors practical tools to make their own green spaces more resilient. Children explored nature‑themed stations, while adults joined guided walks highlighting the city’s ecological corridors and restoration efforts. An important dimension of intergenerational dialogue was also woven into the panel exchanges among experts, academics, activities and citizens. The festival showcased innovative pilot projects, including Tiny Forests, sponge‑city surfaces, and cultural interventions in public space. These initiatives were designed to make sustainability visible and tangible.
Organizers described Green City Days as promoting Rapperswil-Jona as a “city of possibilities,” where residents, researchers, and practitioners could jointly explore new models of ecological, social, and cultural urban living. A highlight was the strong participation from local groups and volunteers, who showcased locally-led initiatives, from pollinator gardens to circular‑economy projects, that are already shaping a more sustainable future for the region.
Supported by the city and local partners and sponsors, the Green City Days aim to position Rapperswil‑Jona as a regional hub for sustainable urban development. According to the city council, the festival is intended to spark long‑term awareness and dialogue, offering both inspiration and practical examples for a greener future. The enthusiastic turnout underscored how deeply residents value a thriving, climate‑resilient city.
