FuturePitch: Immersive learning experiences on sustainability

Smartfeld is an interdisciplinary initiative to cultivate creativity and develop "future skills" among children and young students. Through innovative and engaging learning formats, it empowers young learners aged 7 to 18 in Switzerland to gain data and digital literacy. These workshops are offered to schools and effectively complement the existing curricula.

Expanding its offering, Smartfeld introduces FuturePitch, a new learning module that focuses on utilizing emerging technologies to address challenges of the future. The 2018 PISA Survey revealed a lack of awareness among Swiss children and young people regarding climate change and other critical global issues encompassed in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The specific objective of this project is to enhance students' comprehension of the vast potential of technology in tackling the SDGs, with a strong emphasis on transitioning from mere awareness to the ability to take action. By immersing themselves in novel learning environments, students will discover their own imaginative capacities and problem-solving skills, realizing their potential to contribute towards a more sustainable future.

Smartfeld is an initiative of Switzerland’s Innovation Park Ost, the Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology (EMPA), the St. Gallen Centre of Vocational Education and Training (GBS), the University of Applied Sciences of Eastern Switzerland, the University of Teacher Education St. Gallen and the University of St. Gallen
