Healthy Food Healthy Planet

Back to project overview

Transforming Europe's food environments

The Healthy Food Healthy Planet (HFHP) initiative is a diverse multi-stakeholder movement representing a broad alliance of civil society groups (from health, food, climate, animal welfare, labour rights, farming) and funders who believe the current food system is unsustainable, unhealthy and unjust. It aims to decrease the consumption of extractive animal-sourced foods and to promote sustainable plant and pasture-based foods in Europe. HFHP approaches the challenge through the lens of food environments – the contexts that determine the affordability, availability, convenience and desirability of food.

Concretely, HFHP builds bridges between various campaigns and networks within and among European countries. It channels funding for multiple activities, ranging from grassroots activism to higher-level advocacy, from campaigning to research, training, education and the strengthening of intersectoral alliances. HFHP is structured around the three pillars of movement-building (at both the national and pan-European level), transformational learning and grant-making in service of the movement. This mix of approaches and tools are needed to create a momentum for a new food environment in Europe.
